Byron Lichtenberg

Dr Byron Lichtenberg is an American engineer and scientist, fighter pilot, NASA astronaut, and entrepreneur. He flew aboard two NASA Space Shuttle missions as a Payload Specialist. In 1983, he and Ulf Merbold became the first Payload Specialists to fly on the Shuttle, with the first flight of the European Space Agency’s laboratory module, Spacelab-1 (STS-9). For this mission, he was trained to perform a long series of neuro-physiological experiments by a team of scientists lead by Dr Kass. He later flew on ATLAS-1 (STS-45) Spacelab mission (1992).
