The Executive Director of the IAASS nominated Dr Kass to serve the association as Business Development Mgr., and as member of the Board. This role involves reaching out to aerospace organizations, including companies, research institutes and agencies to collaborate with and sponsor the association’s activities.
The International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS), legally established April 2004 in the Netherlands, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to furthering international cooperation and scientific advancement in the field of space systems safety. In 2004 IAASS became a member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). In 2006 former US Senator John Glenn, first American to orbit, became Honorary Member of the IAASS. In 2010 IAASS was granted Observer status at the United Nations COPUOS (Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space).
The IAASS also publishes the prestigious Journal of Space Safety Engineering (JSSE), which brings together multidisciplinary new knowledge in the domain of space safety research.
Mr Tommaso Sgobba, Executive Director of the IAASS, invited Dr Kass to help with raising funds and organizing partnerships with, and sponsorship for, the association. Mr Sgobba was previously head of the Independent Safety Office of the European Space Agency (ESA), where Kass also previously worked in the domain of human spaceflight and space safety, amongst other areas.
